Hinko Construction were the engineers called in to carry out the repairs with MJB requested to provide the operated and self-drive machinery necessary for the works to be completed. The engineering works on Grinton Moor were to create a temporary crossing where the bridge was washed away during the floods to reopen the route left impassable in time for the cycling world championships on the 29th September. Huge steel tubes were installed to divert the waterway so a temporary bridge and road could be constructed. The severely weakend B6270 was also having a temporary structure for the bridge which was laid over the existing bridge that had been left damaged and incapable of taking any load. 

The B6270 repair operation involved digging away the landslide, laying new road foundations and then resurfacing and white-lining the route. It was originally anticipated that the road would reopen by Friday August 16th but after a lot of hard work long hours the huge task was completed two days early. The temporary bridge at Grinton Moor was opened in time to allow the cycle race to continue along its planned route in September.
